CARING MINISTRIES

Prayer Group: Please contact Betty Nadurak at 403-686-1110 if you have any questions.

UPCOMING EVENTS and NOTICES

Suspended: Because we are concerned about the health of each other, we are closing all Church related meetings for the time being. The Diocese recommends till March 31, 2020. This does not mean we cannot email or chat on the phone and business can be done through emails, conference calls and over the phone. Please contact Rev. Singh at singhjmap[at]shaw[dot]ca for any questions.

Donations: Parish members may either mail in their donation to the Church (903 75 Ave SW, Calgary, AB, T2V 0S7), or they may bring it in and slide it under the Office door. The other alternative is for people to go to their bank and set up a direct deposit- please email Meredith for a form to complete. This will be extremely helpful as a parish member because it automatically comes out of your account to St. Peter’s.

Ohana Café Delivery: Ohana Cafe has been working to find a creative way to be of service in the current situation. As our schools are now closed, and we do not have the responsibility of feeding our usual student crowd. We are launching something totally new to serve our surrounding community, and those in self isolation. We are excited to be able to offer this assistance to people as we all work hard together to slow down the spread of COVID-19.
Ohana will now be offering healthy pre-made meals delivered to your door. We will have 5 different menu options at this time, and they will be packaged in large individual containers, frozen, ready to be tucked in the microwave to be heated and enjoyed. The plastic containers we will be using are both freezer and microwave safe, making them a simple easy option to help those in isolation. We will be developing a volunteer delivery team, and will hopefully have at least two delivery days available each week.
We will be offering the meals at a cost of $2.50 per large meal for orders where the customer is choosing the specific meals they would like from the five choices. Or we will be offering a special package that is 10 meals for $20 which will include 2 of each meal on the menu. The package deal offers the whole variety of what is available, still delivered to your door, working out to only $2.00 per meal. We hope this service will help people feel less isolated, and offer a simple fairly healthy option for those who need it. If people would like to purchase meals and have them delivered to others that they know need them, that will also be available. And if anyone would like to support the program with donations, it will be much appreciated as the need may easily outstretch our resources. Any donation of $20 or more to help with the meals being sent out can be issued a tax receipt. We thank you in advance for your support for this community initiative.
The five menu items planned to be available at this time will be:

  • Chicken wings on Rice (Baked seasoned Chicken wings on a bed of rice)
  • Ohana Pasta (Vegetarian Cheesy pasta with garlic breading topping)
  • Frankenchili (Our famous chili made with browned hot dogs and lots of veggies
  • Butter Chicken on Rice (Our Ohana Butter Chicken with lots of veggies on rice
  • Cream of Potatoe and Veggies Soup (Homemade soup rich with many veggies)

Orders can be made by emailing Cameron at ohana.cafe.cameron[at]gmail[dot]com or by calling him at 403-999-4924. Orders can be paid for in advance by credit card over the phone or by etransfer to ohana.cafe.cameron[at]gmail[dot]com. Paying for orders at the door will be offered by tap debit, credit card, or cash with exact change only. Orders being delivered to strict isolation will be left at front doors, and doorbell rang to avoid contact with those in isolation. Orders for strict isolation will need to either pay over the phone, or make other arrangements with Cameron on a case by case basis.
Ohana is looking forward to serving our broader community during this time of crisis, and counts it our privilege to do what we can to help. We look forward to seeing how this new initiative will work out, and will be flexible to adapt as we learn what is most effective. Please stay tuned for future updates as our initiative grows and changes. Thank you for your support of Ohana Cafe.

Rummage Sale: As we adhere to the self-isolation requirement, it is difficult to keep busy. Have you already polished the silver, cleaned up the computer and audited your photo albums? Open your cupboards, drawers, jewelry boxes, storage area or wander the basement. What is there that you haven’t used, or worn for the last 2 or 3 years? It is now the time to box it up and plan to take it to the Rummage Sale on May 1. Contact Vera Apletree at 403-255-2406 for details.

Cloth Grocery Bags: Reusable, cloth grocery bags are needed to put together grocery bags for any who need one. If you have any available, please leave them in the office or contact Cameron.

CUPS – Calgary Urban Project Society: Ann Bright is the ongoing contact (22 years) for donations of almost anything. She accepts small shampoos and conditioners, body wash, new men’s and women’s underwear, diapers, receiving and baby blankets, sport bags and coats. Items can be delivered to Ann at church.
