Hello. My name is Marg McCulloch. I am your organist/pianist and I am a member of your music group. I was also a Registered Nurse with Alberta Health Services.
As you likely noticed, we are in the process of building a choir again at St. Peter's, and we are hoping that some of you will consider joining us. Here are 10 reasons why singing is healthy for you.
- Singing is good for your heart and lungs, and counts as an aerobic exercise.
- Singing causes your brain to release endorphins – the feel-good hormone. It is an effective mood buster and there is an increasing body of knowledge that shows it is a valuable tool for alleviating depression.
- It improves your ability to use your speaking voice with more clarity and confidence.
- It enhances your sense of connection, community and creativity.
- It is a natural beauty treatment as it exercises your facial muscles.
- It improves your posture, and tones abdominal and intercostal muscles.
- Choral singing increases life expectancy.
- Enhances concentration, mental awaren ess and importantly, memory.
- Reading music improves math skills and cognitive function.
- It boosts the immune system.
So we would love to have you give us a try. Come on Thursday evenings at 7 PM and experience what a good time we have – and get healthier!
