A huge thank-you to everyone who attended our inaugural Community Coffeehouse & Open Mic Night on Saturday, March 7. With an audience of around 35 people (including about a dozen who aren't part of our church family) and a total of nine performances, the evening was a big success!

We raised $260 for the Canadian Foodgrains Bank via Alongside Hope, which is a total we can be proud of – especially when we remember that it will be matched by a factor of up to four, by the federal government (a total of up to $1,040 to combat world hunger). Speaking of efforts to combat world hunger, the baked goods we had for sale were abundant, diverse and delicious. Thanks to our dedicated and talented bakers!

The performers were outstanding, too. Our choir crooned a tasty tune called Java Jive, Margaret Cull and Karen Petkau shared a reflection and some poetry respectively, and Rev. Rob and Music Director Patricia Yuen-Sparrow each performed a number of numbers (with Martin Cull [also our warm and convivial emcee] joining RR on an Everly Brothers ditty).

But it was arguably our guests who stole the show. Sunny City Swing's Cowtown Jitterbugs kicked off the evening with a lively Hollywood‑style Lindy Hop routine (check out the video below), and one of their cronies named Sophia dazzled us all with an amazing classical piano performance. We also had six beautiful works of art on display to stimulate and edify us visually – including one stunning piece by our own Adrianne Williams.

Congratulations and thanks to our Coffeehouse Team, led by Patricia YS! We hope to host another of these events in May, and this one will be a tough act to follow!
