Hal was born in 1946 in Regina, attended Lakeview public school, Sheldon Williams High School, and University of Saskatchewan in Regina and Saskatoon. He was confirmed in St. Lukes Anglican Church and attended services there. Hal was also a Cub Scout, a Boy Scout and a member of the AY.
After graduating from Engineering Science Physics in 1967, he worked in the great Canadian oilpatch mostly in Western Canada. But he travelled extensively for business including the former Soviet Union, the former Yugoslavia, England, Germany, the Middle East, China, Japan, Thailand, Argentina, Mexico, with an extended stay in India. His contact with the rest of world led to a strong appreciation of his western Canadian Christian upbringing.
Hal and Margaret were married at St. Martins in 1969 and joined St. Peter’s when they moved into Oakridge in 1972. Their oldest daughter, Tamara was christened that May. The family moved to Edmonton in the fall and were blessed with a second daughter, Alana in 1973. She was christened at St. John the Evangelist.
Returning to Calgary in 1980, the Anderson’s moved back to Oakridge and resumed attending St. Peter’s. Tamara was married at St. Peter’s in 1999. Margaret passed away from cancer near Christmas 2018. Her funeral was held at St. Peter’s, led by Reverend Eyad. Reverend Deacon Rosemary Bishop interred her ashes in Queens Park in July 2019 on the rainiest day of the summer.
Hal is a sidesman, agreed to fill in as Assistant People’s Warden, then was elected as People’s Warden. Along with Peter Minnima, Hal represents you, the parishioners, in our corporation and on our council. Contact him anytime.
